Bellway Homes

Scheme
Bellway, are proposing a development for up to 555 new homes, including a mix of affordable, self-build and community led homes. The site sits adjacent to the Oasis Academy Brislington school and Brislington Park and Ride on Bath Road. The proposals are taking a landscape-led approach and will include a variety of sustainability and biodiversity enhancements.
Strategy
Bellway and Meeting Place worked with a group of 40 year 10 students at Oasis Academy Brislington to help shape a new neighbourhood on their doorstep. This formed part of the school’s in-house work experience week, specifically aimed at pupils who had been unable to secure work placements.
Pupils worked in pairs to create their own vision for the green spaces on the site. The brief was to draw on their own experience and understanding of local spaces, reflecting on an area that they see regularly.
Outcome
The final drawings spanned food and beverage facilities, renewable energy, ponds and habitats for wildlife, dedicated play areas, sports facilities, dog-friendly footpaths and an abundance of trees. What came through clearly was a desire for a place where people of all ages could connect, meet up and have fun.
By volunteering their time as part of the school's careers day, Bellway ensured no student missed out, giving all pupils a meaningful window into the built environment and the breadth of careers available to them.
