– Three core pledges; housing, infrastructure and sustainability
– Community engagement: Sharing the pledge with local residents, stakeholders and council representatives to highlight commitments
– Sustainable placemaking: Integrating net-zero homes, biodiversity gains, green corridors and active travel routes to reduce car reliance and embed nature in everyday life
– Affordable, mixed-use development: Creating tenure-blind housing, schools, healthcare facilities, employment spaces and flexible commercial zones to support local economic growth and multigenerational living.
– Long-term stewardship: Establishing the Kingswood Legacy Trust to oversee social, environmental and economic outcomes, ensuring lasting community value beyond short-term gains.
Meeting Place is supporting Kingwood’s promotion into the Horsham District Council Local Plan, with the Our Place, Our Pledge charter document being used to drive further engagement with council members and the local community.
Shared with stakeholders and public alike, the document clearly establishes Kingswood’s potential a once-in-a-generation opportunity to tackle Horsham District’s chronic housing shortages and its economic and environmental challenges.
By clearly communicating its ambitions through Our Place, Our Pledge, the project:
– Provides a framework for sustainable, inclusive growth, ensuring 35% affordable homes and infrastructure-led development
– Promotes local economic development, creating over 2,400 jobs and supporting local businesses and apprenticeships
– Demonstrates a commitment to environmental sustainability, achieving a minimum of 15% biodiversity net gain, water neutrality measures and net-zero homes
– Establishes a replicable model for future developments, combining strategic planning and long-term stewardship to create a new community residents can be proud of
