162 new homes proposed for the former St. George’s Hospital site on Suttons Lane in Hornchurch, Havering.
Strategy
Given the significance of the site for local residents and councillors, there was great interest in these proposals.
At the request of local ward councillors, Meeting Place arranged for the initial consultation event to be held on the grounds of the former hospital site, so that local residents could revisit a long closed, but much-loved site. The event attracted huge public interest and attendance, with a follow-up event arranged at Suttons House, a building on-site, being retained by Bellway.
Following the public consultation events, Meeting Place knocked on doors in the local area to discuss the proposals with residents and as a result, was able to gain 42 representations of support.
Outcome
The planning application was ultimately approved by Havering’s Strategic Planning Committee and the scheme has now been delivered.
