Blue Mountain Nightclub, Bristol

Red Oak

Scheme

This project will deliver purpose-built student accommodation on the site of a former nightclub in Stokes Croft, Bristol.

Strategy

Red Oak's previous application was refused by Bristol City Council following a significant amount of public opposition. Meeting Place devised a wide-ranging engagement programme with stakeholders to discuss the emerging proposals for the site well ahead of the submission of the revised application. This included meetings with the local councillors as well as Bristol-based design and night-time economy groups. In addition, Meeting Place also consulted local residents and businesses and invited people to learn more about the proposals via our engaging and accessible project website.

Outcome

We successfully mobilised supporters and minimised objectors through regular engagement and press liaison. This resulted in significantly fewer residents registering their objection on Bristol City Council's planning file than the previous application. The application was granted planning permission under delegated powers by Bristol City Council.

  • Delegated approval on site that was formerly refused at committee
