Meeting Place chooses LandAid as charity partner

News

We are delighted to announce our partnership with the property industry charity LandAid.

Operating across the country, the charity works collaboratively with the property industry in an effort to end youth homelessness. Over the last three years, the value of LandAid’s support has exceeded £4 million, which includes grants providing over 1,000 bed spaces for young people and help for 2,000 young people to find a home.

In addition to providing fundraising, ambassador and event support for the charity, the partnership will see Meeting Place work closely with the charity on their pro-bono program – leveraging contacts across the built environment to maximise impact and awareness.

The collaboration with Meeting Place aligns with the agency’s commitment to social impact – outlined in its Building for Good report – and marks a further step in using the built environment as a force for good, by delivering positive change for communities.

Meeting Place has supported LandAid in recent years through the charity’s annual sleepout campaign and tag rugby events, with several members of the agency becoming ambassadors and regional Board members.

The announcement of the partnership coincides with the launch of LandAid’s ambitious five-year strategy, focused on key areas to support 10,000 young people at risk of homelessness. It aims to create £150 million of social value in partnership with the property industry and increase access to homes for 5,500 young people.

Nikki Davies, CEO of Meeting Place, said: “This announcement reflects our dedication to social impact and the positive role that we believe the built environment can play in the lives of those that need it the most.

“We see first-hand the impact the housing crisis has on the country. A young person becomes homeless every four minutes in the UK and last year alone 136,000 young people contacted their Council to access homelessness support. Much of the time this is not visible to the public, with many sleeping on sofas or in overcrowded hostels.

“Whether by leveraging our contacts across the industry, integrating LandAid’s pro-bono programme into client projects or helping with event fundraising and donations, we’re excited about this partnership and helping make a difference in the lives of young people at risk of homelessness.”

LandAid Chief Executive Paul Morrish said: “Last year, nearly 136,000 young people in the UK reported themselves as homeless to their local councils. Additionally, countless others resorted to sleeping in overcrowded hostels, on friends’ sofas, or even on the streets. Tackling the challenge of youth homelessness requires a collective effort from all sectors of society, and with the support of the property industry, we can make a significant impact.

“We are incredibly grateful to Meeting Place for joining us in our mission to end youth homelessness. The expertise and resources they can bring to the LandAid team, and the charities we support, will be invaluable. Together, we can ensure that every young person in the UK has access to safe, warm, and affordable accommodation.”

The partnership with LandAid, follows Meeting Place launching partnerships with the Plunkett Foundation in 2023 and Babbasa in 2024.
